Summer Courses 2026

Welcome to DePaul College Prep’s Summer Program. Like our academic and athletic programs during the school year, our summer school and camps will enrich and excite students in a variety of courses and activities. As always, we pride ourselves on providing a challenging Catholic college prep education for young women and men and Summer, 2026 will be no exception.

Information and registration may be found below. All programming will be filled on a first come, first served basis, and DePaul College Prep reserves the right to cancel a course if minimum enrollment is not achieved. Students and parents will receive immediate confirmation that their summer school registration and payment were received at the time of registration.

All summer school classes for 1.0 credit will meet for 6 weeks, June 8 through July 17, 2026. The hours of school will be 7:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. and will meet Monday through Friday. Classes for .5 credit will meet for 3 weeks, during the dates listed below.

Courses for rising 9th through 12th grade students (Classes of 2027 - 2030)

Students may register for one 1.0 credit summer course or one or both .5 credit courses. Registration is available from January 12 through May 1.

Physics (Honors)

Prerequisite: A minimum grade of B- (80%) in both semesters of Algebra I Honors and Chemistry Honors. Students in Physics Honors should be concurrently enrolled in, or have completed Algebra 2 Honors.

Course Description: This course is designed for students who want to pursue a degree in science on the college level. Students are expected to solve difficult, multi-step problems. Laboratory experiments are also an essential part of the course. The following topics will be covered: Motion and forces, momentum, gravitation, work and energy, heat and thermodynamics, waves, electricity and magnetism, atomic physics and quantum mechanics. This course moves at a faster pace than the college prep course, provides more depth and rigor to each topic and is math intensive.

Algebra I (Honors)

Prerequisite: HSPT Entrance Exam scores, algebra readiness exam scores, and department recommendation. May elect to take this course over the summer for an opportunity to place out of Algebra I Honors.

Course Description: The student will be able to show a logical, systematic approach to solve problems using algebraic concepts and methods. This course covers the laws of algebra, sets, linear equations and inequalities, absolute value, polynomials with a focus on quadratics and factoring, exponentials, graphing, and statistics. This course moves at a faster pace than Algebra 1 (CP) and consequently includes topics not discussed in the CP-level course.

NOTE: Students must maintain a 90% average in order to be placed in Geometry Honors, or an 80% average in order to be placed in Geometry College Prep for their 9th grade math course. Students who earn less than an 80% average will be scheduled into Algebra I College Prep or Algebra I Honors for their 9th grade math course.

Any student who was placed in Algebra 1 CP is not eligible for this summer school course.

Geometry (Honors)

Prerequisite: A minimum grade of B- (80%) in Algebra 1 Honors or a grade of A (95%) in Algebra 1 College Prep both semesters, PSAT scores, and department approval.

Course Description: This course covers plane and solid geometry, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, congruence, similarity, surface area and volume. This course moves at a faster pace and will include more topics and challenging applications than Geometry CP.

Algebra II (Honors)

Prerequisite: Minimum grade of B- (80%) in Algebra 1 Honors and a B- (80%) in Geometry Honors both semesters with department approval. Students who do not complete Algebra I Honors and Geometry Honors and seek a track change must meet the following criteria: Grade of A (95%) in Algebra 1 CP both semesters, PSAT scores, and department approval.

Course Description: The student will expand the knowledge obtained in Algebra 1 to do increasingly more complex problems and applications. The course also includes polynomial, rational, radical, exponential, and logarithmic functions, and an introduction to statistics. This course moves at a faster pace and will include more topics and challenging applications than Algebra 2 CP.

American Government (College Prep)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of United States History

Course Description: This course is a one-semester required course for seniors and consists of a survey of the U.S. political system, focusing on the background, institutions, and processes of our governmental system. The course will cover topics such as the background and development of the U.S. Constitution, the roles of the three branches of government, political ideologies and parties, elections, voting, participation in political organizations, and a study of individual and civil rights. During this course, each student will take and pass the U.S. Constitution Exam, which is a graduation requirement. Successful completion of this course will provide students with the practical skills and the knowledge and confidence to promote positive change through engaged citizenship.

Economics (College Prep)

Prerequisite: Successful completion of United States History

Course Description: Economics is a one-semester survey course designed to introduce the student to the key principles and theories of economics. The course will study how the government and the nation use their resources to satisfy the wants and needs of its people. The course will be broken down into two main areas of study - microeconomics and macroeconomics. Microeconomics will focus on how markets and business operate and the role the government plays in the economy. Macroeconomics studies the law of supply and demand and will cover classic economic theories such as Monetarist and Keynesian.

French Language Bootcamp

July 6-9, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Aimed towards students entering French 3 and French 4. We will review the major verb tenses and high-frequency words, practice our conversational skills, train our listening skills through audio and video clips, and participate in group games/activities to explore francophone culture. This mid-summer camp will help you refresh your French skills and leave you better prepared to succeed in your next year of French.

IB French Preparation

July 13-17, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Aimed towards students entering IB French Year 1, especially those coming directly from Level 2, but open to all current and prospective IB students. We will review themes covered in French 3 (food, health, technology and urban living). We will review the major verb tenses and high-frequency words and train our comprehension and speaking skills. We will preview what assessments look like in IB and review exams and students' samples from previous years. We will cap the week with a team cultural outing in Chicago. This mid-summer camp will help you refresh your French skills and set you up for success in the challenging IB language program.

Spanish Language Bootcamp

July 6-9, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Aimed towards students entering Spanish 3 and Spanish 4. We will review the major verb tenses and high-frequency words, practice our conversational skills, train our listening skills through audio and video clips, and participate in group games/activities to explore the culture. This mid-summer camp will help you refresh your Spanish skills and leave you better prepared to succeed in your next year of Spanish.

IB Spanish Preparation

July 6-10, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Aimed towards students entering IB Spanish Year 1, especially those coming directly from Level 2, but open to all current and prospective IB students. College RAMp Up

Rising seniors can get ahead of the college search process by joining the DePaul Prep College Counseling Team in a series of workshops designed to make the Summer and Fall college application push more manageable. Students will gain a stronger understanding of the college app process, complete their Common Application, begin building their college essay, develop a summer action plan, and connect with College admissions reps. Space is limited to 120 students per session. Students may register for only one session.

Essential Information

Academic Integrity Policy

DePaul College Prep expects all students to submit work that is entirely a result of their own effort and to pursue academic achievement with integrity. Examples of these violations include cheating, plagiarism, use of AI, and obtaining and providing any kind of unfair advantage. All instances of academic integrity at DePaul College Prep are tracked by teachers and the Dean’s Office. Violations will result in a zero on the assignment or assessment and may result in the removal from the summer school course. Removal from a course will result in zero credit and the course tuition is non-refundable.

Attendance

Attendance is essential and required each day in order to successfully complete a course and receive credit. A student missing one day of a credit course is equivalent to a one week absence during the academic year. Conflicts such as vacation, summer employment, doctor’s appointments, or team practices cannot excuse a student from a credit course. A student may not arrive late or be dismissed early from class. If a student accumulates more than a day’s absence, the student will be dropped from the course and the tuition will not be refunded. Three tardies are equivalent to a half day absence.

Cost

A $300 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of registration for the credit courses. The $300 deposit will be applied to summer course tuition and families will be billed the balance through their FACTS account. Families will have the option to pay in full at the time of registration. The registration, deposit, or full payment will be made online.

Summer school courses cannot be added or dropped after the first day of classes on June 8, 2026. Tuition will not be refunded after June 9, 2026.

Credit

Homework

Homework is assigned each day and is due at the start of each class. Students should expect 1-2 hours of homework each day. Due to the pace and rigor of the courses, homework will be used to review and reinforce concepts from that day’s lessons or will serve as a preview for the next day’s lessons. Incomplete homework or late homework will not be accepted and will result in a zero.

Grade Policy

All high school academic courses are subject to the DePaul College Prep grading scale. The initial grading system is numerical, which then equates to a letter grade:

A = 93-100	B+ = 87-89	C+ = 77-79	D+ = 67-69
A- = 90-92	B = 83-86	C = 73-76	D = 63-66
	B- = 80-82	C- = 70-72	D- = 60-62
			F = 0-59

Students are advised to refer to the Student Handbook and Schoology for a detailed description of the DePaul College Prep grading system, the explanation of failing grades, and cause for the dismissal of a student for academic reasons.

Grade Point Averages

Grade point averages are weighted according to the degree of course difficulty. College Prep classes are weighted as follows: A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, and D = 1. A plus (+) adds 0.33 points (except for the grade of A) and a minus (-) subtracts 0.33 points (E.g. A grade of C+ earns 2.33 grade points and a grade of C- earns 1.67 grade points). DePaul College Prep does not include A+ in its grading system. Honors classes receive an additional 0.5 weighting.
