No.  Families must purchase an iPad for each of their DePaul Prep students. Families can purchase the iPad from their vendor of choice.  iPads are not available for purchase through DePaul College Prep. You can purchase an iPad through the Family Funded Apple Program. This link will direct you to the recommended purchases. Add the "Recommended Systems" to your cart first and edit as necessary. 

Your student may use that device provided it meets the recommended specifications and your student has access to this device on a daily basis.  Each student should have a dedicated iPad for her/his use.   

Students should use their own personal Apple ID on their iPads.

Yes, every student will need to bring an iPad to school. Much of the content for your student’s courses will be delivered digitally. Your student will need their iPad to access this content (textbooks, websites, apps, etc.).    

To ensure student success, all students are required to have an iPad that is 9th generation or later with a 1st Gen apple pencil (10th generation iPad with a usb-c apple pencil). The iPad must be updated to iOS version 16 or later, have at least 128GB of memory (but 256+ are recommended), a 10.2-inch screen, and Wi-Fi only. Students are also required to have a non-detachable keyboard and a protective case.

A protective case should be purchased for your iPad as it is a fragile device and can break easily when dropped. A case that protects the corners of the device, as they can be easily damaged, is recommended. A keyboard and Apple Pencil are required as well. Students can choose from a variety of options for these devices. With regard to Apple Pencils, there are two different types available. Apple is offering slight discounts to students on new iPads. Depending on the device, this is typically a $20 - $30 discount. Orders can be placed online and delivered to your home or nearby Apple Store. Yes, all students should own a Ti-84 Graphing Calculator. All other calculators are not necessarily supported or allowed in class. It is possible graphing apps may be allowed in class, but will not be available to students during assessments.    

When you purchase your iPad, a warranty, such as Apple Care+, is strongly recommended so that your device can be repaired in the event that it is damaged. AppleCare+ must be purchased within 60 days of your iPad purchase.  AppleCare+ is coverage for accidental damage to your student’s iPad.  It is a two year extended warranty and does not insure against loss or theft.  You should consult with your insurance carrier regarding coverage in the event of theft.  For current information on Apple Care+ for the iPad, click here: https://www.apple.com/support/products/ipad/ 

If your iPad experiences technical difficulties, contact Apple on-line at https://support.apple.com/repair. This site will walk you through a repair request. If your iPad is still operable, be sure to perform a data backup before your service appointment.

With the exception of Notability, students will be expected to purchase Apps using their own Apple ID. The majority of apps students use for academic purposes are free to them. 

DePaul Prep uses Jamf School to help our students stay focused and engaged when at school. Students are expected to adhere to the school’s Technology Responsible Use Policy which appears in the Student Handbook. Students should also adhere to their individual teacher’s classroom policies. Families are encouraged to have ongoing conversations with their students about the appropriate use of technology both on and off campus. Families can implement additional policies to monitor student iPad usage if they so choose. Families can seek assistance from Apple for implementing Parental Controls on the iPad if necessary. We are aware of the dangers associated with overexposure to technology and social media. Our job as educators and families is to make sure that students know those dangers as well, and to educate them to become smart, ethical users of their computing devices.    

Teachers will help in this endeavor, but families play an important role in this educational component. Teachers are trained to use the right tool at the right time. Sometimes it makes sense to use pen and paper or turn the pages of a book; whether those are paper or electronic pages. Sometimes it is important just to listen or to lead a group discussion. And sometimes, it is essential to use an iPad to find the best answers, synthesize information, and create something dynamic. 

We also strive to have a digital level playing field. Each student has the necessary digital tool to aid in their education and growth. DePaul Prep exposes students to a well-balanced education that encompasses proper manners, etiquette, debate skills, public speaking skills, digital literacy, collaboration, and team-building skills in all areas of our curriculum.
