Dress Code

ACCEPTABLE  SCHOOL ATTIRE

The DePaul College Prep dress code is a major component to prepare students for the professional world while instilling self-respect, neatness and pride in our school identity.  With the support of parents/guardians and faculty, these guidelines help to engender a positive academic climate of mature behavior. Any student who cannot comply with the dress code due to injury or illness must receive written permission from the Dean of Students to attend school out of uniform.  All uniform clothing is to be purchased from the Tommy Hilfiger Website.
 

NOTE: The Administration reserves the right to determine whether a style of dress or a style, length, or coloring in hair is appropriate and in keeping with the philosophy of DePaul College Prep. Teachers are primarily responsible for enforcing the dress code. 

FEMALES 

• Khaki uniform skirt (three options available). Skirts may NOT be rolled up at the waist.
• White button-down dress shirt, long or short sleeves with school logo, fully buttoned and tucked in.
• -OR- 
• White or navy blue DePaul College Prep polo shirt including dri-fit, clean and tucked in.
• Blazer is optional (see Tommy Hilfiger’s website)
• Khaki or docker style pants (chinos) purchased from the DePaul Prep section of the Tommy Hilfiger website.
• Uniform khaki shorts from Tommy Hilfiger are acceptable attire in warm weather or August - September and April - May.
• Yoga-wear, form fitting pants, jeggings, leggings and sweatpants are not allowed; no elastic or tight-fitting cuffs on the ankle. Black or navy tights or leggings are allowed underneath skirts during winter months however, sweatpants are not allowed under skirts at any time.
• Hair must be neat, clean, and professional.
• Hair color must be a natural color (blonde, brunette, black, auburn) 
• Excessive jewelry is not allowed to be worn in the building during school hours.
• A maximum of two earrings per ear.

MALES 

• White button-down dress shirt, long or short sleeves with school logo, fully buttoned and tucked in.
•  -OR- 
• White or navy blue DePaul College Prep polo shirt, including dri-fit, clean and tucked in.

• One piece of  jewelry such as a ring or necklace is allowed to be worn in the building during school hours. 

ALL Students

• All uniforms must be purchased from the Tommy Hilfiger website.
• Navy DePaul College Prep V-neck, crew neck, quarter zip, or cardigan sweaters are the only acceptable outerwear allowed to be worn in school. A DePaul College Prep polo or shirt must be worn under all outerwear. All outerwear must be official DePaul College Prep apparel from either Tommy Hilfiger, the DePaul Prep Spirit Shop, or team athletic shop
• A school issued DePaul College Prep ID card on the school issued lanyard must be visibly displayed around the neck at all times.
  • Freshman -White lanyard
  • Sophomores - Lake Blue lanyard
  • Juniors - Navy lanyard
  • Seniors - Seniors may wear a lanyard of their choice (must be school appropriate)
• A belt must be worn at all times; the waist of the pants must be above the waist line and pants must extend to the ankles.
• Socks must be worn at all times in school.
• Shoes:
  • Dress shoes
  • Gym shoes  
  • Boots (no combat, cowboy, high heels, etc.) 
  • All footwear must cover the toes and heel (i.e. no open toe shoes or slip-ons)

SPIRIT WEAR FRIDAYS

• DePaul Prep hooded sweatshirts are allowed only on Spirit Wear Fridays. No other brands of hooded sweatshirts are allowed.
• All club and athletic team apparel purchased through DePaul Prep Team Shops is allowed.
• DePaul Prep athletic team jerseys may only be worn on Spirit Wear Fridays
• DePaul Prep apparel from the Spirit Shop is allowed 
• Uniform bottoms and shoes must be worn
• School I.D.s must be worn; uniform shirts must be tucked in 

The following are Unacceptable Dress and Prohibited from being worn in school:

• Piercings (nose and lip rings)
• Hats
• Headgear – including headphones, headsets, earphones or earbuds (except for study hall) 
• Sunglasses
• Visible Tattoos
• Visible chains, medals, medallions

NOTE: The expectation is that students will arrive at school dressed per the dress code and stay in dress code until the end of the school day, unless you are changing for a school sponsored activity. Decisions on dress code matters are at the sole discretion of the Deans of Students. Students who violate this policy may be refused admission to class or asked to call home for the uniform item to be delivered to school.

Currently, there are two options for ordering PE Uniforms: 

1. Parents can purchase remaining in-house PE uniform stock through our Spirit Shop, or 

2. Going forward, parents can purchase PE uniforms through our uniform vendor, Tommy Hilfiger. (Once all in-house PE Uniform inventory is sold out from the Spirit Shop, then parents will only be able to purchase PE Uniform pieces through Tommy Hilfiger going forward.)

Additionally, students are allowed to wear any DePaul Prep t-shirts and pants issued either from athletic teams or clubs. 

Please note that we have a limited remaining supply in our Spirit Shop and pieces will be sold down and not re-ordered, so orders are first come, first serve. If ordering through the Spirit Shop, students can pick-up orders from the Front Desk during summer during operating hours, or on their first day back on campus. Otherwise, PE Uniforms can be ordered and shipped from the Tommy Hilfiger website.

PE Classes for the 2022-23 School Year

Our plan is to be outdoors and utilize our Athletic Stadium and green grass across the street beginning on the first day up to the beginning of November. We will also be utilizing the gym at our old Fr. Gordon Campus. Students will be bussed from the Mary A. Dempsey Academic Center to the Fr. Gordon campus.

Cell Phones/Electronics

Cell phones, laser pointers, cameras, camera cell phones, electronic devices (with or without headphones or earbuds) may not be used or visible during school hours from 7:45 a.m. - 2:45p.m. or during the times of an adjusted schedule, unless granted permission from a faculty/staff member. Cell phones and other electronic devices may not be used during passing periods, when students are out of class, in the Commons, in the bathrooms, or during lunch. Phones should be turned off, silenced at all times, and not visible during the scheduled school day. 

Backpacks

Backups are to be kept in the student’s locker. Students should only carry their necessary belongings to their classes. An 8.5”L x 5”H bag is allowed to carry to class for pencil/pens, calculator and other smaller items. Students will be allowed to go to their locker prior to the first bell and during passing periods to pick up their necessary belongings for their classes.

Lockers

• Only school issued locks are permitted on the lockers.  Lockers are to be KEPT LOCKED.  Students are only to use the locker assigned to them; any changes must be approved by the Dean. Students are not to give locker combinations or share lockers with anyone at any time.
• DePaul College Prep is not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items. Students should not bring expensive personal items into the school (i.e. jewelry, and other expensive articles of clothing). All lost, damaged, or stolen items should be reported to the Dean of Students.
• Lockers are the property of DePaul College Prep and subject to search by a designated DePaul Prep representative at any time and for any reason.
• Students who vandalize lockers will be held accountable for restitution and face disciplinary consequences on a case-by-case basis.  Students who possess permanent markers and substances that can make the locker dysfunctional will face disciplinary consequences on a case-by-case basis.  Students who are in possession of another student's lock may face a serious discipline action and/or expulsion.  
• Food or drinks for lunches are to be removed from lockers at the end of every day.
• Gym bags are to be stored in lockers 
• Students may only go to their lockers in the designated time in the morning, during change of class, and immediately after school. 
• If a locker does not work properly (i.e., it is jammed, the combination will not work, or the student forgot the locker combination), the student should report this to the Dean of Students, immediately.

We are looking forward to our second year of Vincentian Day this Fall. As a reminder, Vincentian Day is a learning opportunity for our students where they choose from a wide range of offerings which are facilitated by our faculty and that focus on topics that include the seminars on the arts, physical and emotional well-being, literacy, service, and many more topics. Vincentian Day seminars will take place both on and off our campus with many using the City of Chicago as their classroom. A course catalogue will be shared with parents and students in upcoming weeks so that students can preview courses and begin building their top 5 choice list. Registration for Vincentian Day will take place during our Grade Level Orientation Days. Here are a few additional reminders about Vincentian Day for parents and students:

• Vincentian Days take place every other Wednesday between noon and 3 p.m. Please refer to the School calendar on our website for a preview of these dates

• Bus service for those enrolled in this program will be available on these days

• Our Dining Hall will be open at 11:00 a.m. for students who would like to purchase lunch before Vincentian Day begins and for students on campus for Advisory in the morning

• For Vincentian Days offerings that involve cooking, we are not able to accommodate food allergies. However, there will be dozens of options for students to choose from. 

• Participation in Vincentian Day is a requirement of all DePaul Prep students

**New families (incoming freshmen and transfer students): you will receive an email directly from Magnus Health this summer, providing your password to access your child’s Magnus Health SMR account(s).**

It is CRITICAL that all families enter their child’s medical information into our Magnus Health system. This includes all vaccination information and other required medical documentation, including COVID-19 vaccination status. DePaul Prep will strictly enforce childhood immunization requirements and will hold students out of school if these are not in place as is required by the Illinois State Board of Education. Please review the IDPH Immunization Requirements here. 

For student-athletes playing Fall sports, health records must be updated in Magnus no later than August 8. For all students, health records must be updated in Magnus no later than August 23 so that we can take the appropriate steps to confirm your child's safety during orientation days. This year, that includes an update of your child's COVID-19 vaccination status. 

Visit our Student Health page to download and complete all necessary Student Health forms. All forms will need to be uploaded to your Magnus Health profile. Magnus Health SMR (Student Medical Record), is DePaul Prep's health system to organize and keep all updated immunizations and health-related forms for school and athletic use. DePaul Prep will not be accepting hard copies of health forms; all forms must be uploaded to your student’s Magnus Health account.

Timely submission of health information and other forms is vital so that preparations can be made prior to the first day of school. You will receive weekly reminders as long as there are outstanding items in your account. If there is no data in your account, please reserve 20 to 30 minutes per child. Once information is uploaded, it will be verified by our nurse and if there is anything that needs to be corrected, you will be notified.  The good news is that you will not have to repeat this work next year: the data is securely stored, so going forward you will simply provide updates to the record as needed.  Anything updated will also be verified and you will be notified if anything needs to be amended.

Please note: Students need to reference their student ID number to set up a My MealTime account. You will be notified of your ID number before the start of school.

My MealTime Online:  We are happy to offer you the option to add money to your student’s meal account online through My MealTime www.mymealtime.com. A 4.9% fee is charged by the third party/bank. To avoid the fee, an account balance can be established in advance by check made out to Quest Food Services, and delivered to school. Purchases will be debited against that account balance.  Accounts can be set up using your student’s “Quest/Meal Time Number” = student number, located on  your student’s class schedule (student schedules will be available online later this summer). The Student ID can be scanned to purchase items in the cafeteria. Balances at the end of the year will be transferred to the following school year.

Morning bus transportation is available through the DePaul Prep bus service for an additional $550 fee per semester.

Please Note: Morning bus transportation will not be provided on grade level orientation days.

As we continue to prepare for the upcoming school year, our top priority is the health and safety of our students. The 2022-23 morning bus transportation has been adjusted to accommodate public health and safety guidelines. Please be aware that with these guidelines and restrictions, our buses will not be able to accommodate all families and applicants. The current routes will be altered to pick up students who live furthest from campus. We have identified the following zip codes as areas that we cannot accommodate with our morning bus service:

60607, 60614, 60618, 60630, 60634, 60639, 60641, 60657, 60647, 60625, 60613 (subject to change)

Additionally, if your zip code is not listed, a seat for your student is not guaranteed and only 1-2 pick up locations will be on each route at a designated time. An application to request the Morning Transportation Service will be available later this summer.

2022-23 BELL Schedule

With 1,100 plus students on our campus as well as 4,000 students at Lane Tech, along with various modes of transportation (teen and adult drivers, cyclists, walkers) congestion and traffic patterns present some challenges. In order to ensure safe and efficient practices, we ask all families to adhere to the following guidelines during the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.

As you arrive and depart DePaul Prep’s campus, please be mindful of the active use of bike lanes installed on Roscoe and Campbell surrounding our campus. 

We also encourage students and families to consider carpooling and use of public transportation, where possible. Thank you for serving as partners in our continued efforts to welcome DePaul Prep students to the 2022-2023 school year - we are grateful for your support.
