National Honor Society
Chapter Advisor: Ms. Bernadette Raspante
Membership in the National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. Our chapter has worked hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and the community. Our chapter strives to give practical meaning to the Society’s standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character in conjunction with DePaul College Prep’s Core Values of Faith, Respect, Excellence, Service, and Health. These ideals are considered as the basis for selection. No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average. The National Honor Society strives to recognize the total student—one who excels in all of these areas.
Membership, however, is more than an honor. It is an ongoing responsibility and an obligation to continue to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that result in a student’s selection. Membership also carries a responsibility to the chapter. If our NHS chapter is to be effective and meaningful, each member must become involved.
The standards used for selection and maintaining membership are:
- Maintenance of a Cumulative Weighted 3.9 GPA
- Participation in a minimum of 20 service hours, five of which must be completed directly with NHS, prior to March 14, 2025.
- Members are expected to be present at all meetings and communicate in a timely manner of any pre-scheduled conflicts. Tardiness at two meetings will qualify as an unexcused absence. Any student with three unexcused absences at monthly meetings will be dismissed from the application process and/or chapter.
- Any honor society student who receives a Tier 2 violation and/or Saturday detention will be put on probation. A second Tier 2 violation and/or Saturday detention within a given school year will result in a student’s dismissal from the society.
- Any new applicant with an existing Tier 3 violation will be denied acceptance to the society. Any student who receives a Tier 3 violation during the school year will be immediately dismissed from the society with no opportunity for reapplication.
- Exemplifying DePaul College Prep’s Core Values of Faith, Respect, Excellence and Service and Health at all times. If a student fails to adhere to these values, they may be dismissed from the chapter.
Once a member has completed the above requirements, the individual will be inducted into an honor society. One must remain in good academic and behavioral standing to remain an active member. Any student that falls below standing will enter probation status until they fulfill their expectations for good standing. Seniors who do not maintain their standing during their spring semester will forfeit their honor society cords at the graduation ceremony.
