The Story of DePaul College Prep
DePaul College Prep is a Vincentian Catholic High School sponsored by the Congregation of the Mission, Western Province, also known as the Vincentians. The Vincentian fathers and brothers also sponsor DePaul University, the academic partner of DePaul College Prep. From 1898-1968, the Vincentian fathers also sponsored DePaul Academy, a Vincentian high school located on the University's Lincoln Park campus. Governance of DePaul College Prep is entrusted to a lay Board of Directors. The school is guided by the core values of Faith, Respect, Excellence, Service, and Health, and by our Vision to create an educated, just, and compassionate world, one student at a time.
In 2012, a group of trustees and administrators of DePaul University was asked by the Archdiocese of Chicago and the priests and brothers of the Congregation of the Resurrection to assist Gordon Tech High School, which was facing academic and financial challenges. As the academic partnership with DePaul University progressed successfully, the school officially became DePaul College Prep in 2014. DePaul Prep continued to rent the Gordon Tech campus from the Congregation of the Resurrection.
In July 2019, in response to rapidly growing enrollment, DePaul College Prep's Board of Directors purchased a 17-acre campus and modern school buildings at 3300 N. Campbell, Chicago, Illinois. DePaul College Prep moved its operations to the new campus in August 2020. The religious sponsorship of the school transferred from the Resurrectionists to the Vincentians in September 2019.
DePaul College Prep proudly began the 2020-2021 school year on the school's new campus. The 17-acre campus includes the 178,000 square foot Mary A. Dempsey Academic Center comprised of 62 modern classrooms, 2 student dining halls, four maker spaces, ten science labs, Black Box Theater, strength training and weight room, library, chapel, and two student gathering places. The campus also includes an organic teaching garden, greenhouse, grass practice field, and 1,800 seat turf field stadium. In Fall 2027, DePaul Prep will open its new 74,600 square foot indoor athletic complex comprised of a competition court, a 3 court field house, elevated track, wrestling room, strength training facility and locker rooms.
Students choose from a wide range of course offerings, including College Prep, Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) classes. Thanks to our academic partnership with DePaul University, DePaul Prep students can also enroll in dual enrollment classes at DePaul University. One hundred percent (100%) of DePaul Prep’s graduates are accepted to colleges and universities across the country, in Canada, and in Europe.
In response to the central Vincentian question, 'What must be done?', DePaul Prep's students provide tens of thousands of hours of service annually to a variety of not for profit organizations in Chicago and elsewhere.
